Homemade hot oil hair mask, the perfect excuse to take some time away from the stresses of daily life and spend a some time on yourself!

Ingredients:

2 tbsp of Sweet Almond Oil  to replenish moisture

1 tbsp of Fractionated Coconut Oil to reduce protein loss in hair

¼ tsp of Vitamin E oil for growth and repair

3 drops of Roman Chamomile Oil for anti inflammatory properties and calming effects

1: Set up your double boiler or alternatively place a glass jug over a small pan which has a few inches of water in it. Gently heat the water until it begins to simmer. Measure out the oils into the glass jug and stir to combine.

2: Slowly heat the oil until it is warm but not hot; if you overheat it the oils may break down and change the consistency (and you could hurt yourself handling hot oil!) You can use the oil treatment straight away or simply pop it in a glass bottle and save for another day. This will make more than enough oil for very thick long hair, adjust the amount you use to suit your hair length and type and save any remaining product.

3: Apply a small amount of oil to the scalp and thoroughly massage it in; the scalp is the foundation of good hair so making sure its well moisturised and looked after means better hair growth and stronger hair too! Now add a little more oil but concentrate on the mid lengths and ends, I use a tint brush to apply the oil but using your hands works just as well. Once all your hair has a nice thin coating on it pile it up on top of your head and cover with either a shower cap or clingfilm. Cover your wrapped hair with a warm towel and secure it tightly.

4: Leave the towel in place until it is completely cool then remove it leaving the covering on your hair. Leave the shower cap and oil on your hair for 30 minutes to 2 hours (whatever you have time for)

5: Rinse your hair with hot water for about a minute then you will need to thoroughly shampoo it once or twice to remove the oil residue. You may need to use a light conditioner after shampooing but this will depend on your hair type, if its thick, dry or colour treated it may be beneficial. Give your hair one final rinse using tepid water. After a hot oil treatment try not to heat treat the hair too much, allow it to air dry and once its mostly dry finish it off with a hairdryer. Now sit back and enjoy your rejuvenated moisture rich mane!
